I have a 600gpd sea recovery water maker. (older unit with the 2.5" dia membranes.) now i have a unit with 3 membranes which should be rated at 200gpd. I have noticed that many of the membrane filters i can buy are either 150 or 300. To reduce my costs is there anything wrong with buying 2 x 300gpd membranes and just removing one of the membrane housings on the water maker?

Is there any benefit to keeping all three membrane housings on the unit? Who makes good membranes? Filmtec (dow company)?

I can not comment on an answer but I certainly would like to know what you learn later if you decide to take that route.

    Hi,

Over the years the throughput of membranes has improved, as long as you do not exceed the max flow rates for the membranes you will be ok with any combination of them.

By this I mean 2 x 300 or 4 x 150 not one of one and two of the other.

I have an older watermaker on my yacht and would like some recommendations for places to buy new membranes for good prices. Can any of you recommend any place for these.
