About time we covered this subject. Post your photos & stories here. If true, great - if not, must be entertaining, eh? Those are the rulez - and to kick things off: (sorry, had to end that bandwidth busting link).
I used to remind my dive students that once you enter the ocean, you are no longer the top of the food chain. Dave
Sad but true Well, if they are like the demented alcoholic, narcissistic, neurotic sea hag that inhabits the end of "B" dock in my marina - well, sure, that countz. (This "woman" tried to throw my 4 year old in the water for jumping on her swim platform). Beat that for a dollar!
Redman: Your 'sea hag' tale might just be the basis for a new thread: "Worst people I have ever met--and why-- in my yachting experiences". Let the vitriol flow!
That could get messy. Everyone's got bad days... but Redman's story... geez, that's worse than just a "bad day".
Kevin, you're right. What was I thinking? Let's leave the sea hags alone: the one on Redman's dock and the one who appeared in really old Popeye cartoons.
I've never seen anything that could be described as a sea monster aside from the previously mentioned rare beasts attached to the odd pier here and there. On the other hand I've heard of all sorts of large critters in many places over the years. There always seems to be the "expert" with the rational explanation but the experts never were there when the critter was seen in the first place. So, the people that have lived by the sea all their lives and many of whom have made their living on the water just may have some credibility. There's a heck of a lot more water on this planet than land and we're still finding all sorts of beasties on land that we didn't know existed. Pretty good odds that there are critters in the oceans that we know nothing about either.
My exact thoughts this morning when walked out on the dock to take in the rising sun and my first cup of java. I was greeted by two Iguanas, about 24-30 inches in length. They too, came out to take in a little sun. Not sure on the coffee. One thing's for sure... I don't watch enough Animal Planet. When I stood up to leave, they spooked... and jumped from the seawall into the water, some 6 feet below. I watched two lizards do freestyle like Mark Spitz. I don't claim to be well versed in all things water... and this is further proof.... but I didn't know lizards (large ones!) could swim!
Creek Monster Snakehead to be sure. All 20" of him (her?) - dont know for sure, but I caught this one back in 2004 when such an event still made the papers! (Next onez a keeper - hear they taste great ).
