A number of sail yachts are currently in build and are at various stages of construction. A few will launch very soon and some won't be launched until the next year so here is a short compilation of what I have found so far. Vitters has a 45-meter fast performace sloop in build for launch in 2011. Vitters also have the 45-meter "Lady B" which will launch pretty soon. (2009) Royal Huisman has a 49-meter ketch-rigged yacht in build for 2011. Royal Huisman 36-meter classic for 2012. Massive 67-meter ketch in build by Baltic Yachts for 2010 launching. 28-meter gunboat catamaran for launch in 2010. Rhoades Young Design
Locally, Alloy Yachts, Yachting Developments and Fitzroy Yachts have sailing superyachts underway. I see that Alloy have a no name 67 metre ketch starting in build for a 2011 launch which would be their biggest project. They are also finishing the new Kokomo sloop for a oft repeat customer and a new version Imagine - both Ed Dubois designs. YDL are doing another Dubois (121')in composites as well as a 100" Warwick Cat. Fitzroy have the new Salperton [#IV] close to launch, a 50 metre Dubois sloop for 2010 and a Ted Fontaine design called Northwind that is also about completed I think. I can only imagine that none of these reputable companies have a lineup of people begging for forward build slots as may have been the case a short few years ago but I guess their saviour will necessarily have to be a continuing ability to offer comparative quality with Europe's best at a competitive price. The exotic spar manufacturers, sail makers and specialist marine interior contractors continue to get international superyacht business from offshore yards as well so they appear to be somewhat OK at present.
Yes Blair, thank you for your wisdom and additions to the thread. I do know about many of those vessels in build to which you refer.
Many 2009 delivered sail yachts have been nominated in the ISS awards. "Baracuda", "Ethereal", "Inmocean", "Mondango" and "Saudade" are the nominees in the 40-meter and above category.
Yachting Developments is building a 121-foot Dubois designed fast cruising sloop and it is to launch sometime late 2009. Any of our New Zealand members have any information of this build? http://www.**************************
Sorry Brian, haven't been following things too much lately but timing would suggest it is either launched and in the commissioning phase or is about to be wetted. I'll wander down to the Viaduct Basin in the next few days. [Fell in love (again!) with Endeavour when I last was there.]
Thank you for your knowledge windriven! Edit: through some quick research I can confirm your proposition! Thanks!
The Alloy "Mondango" has wond the Show Boats award for best sailing vessel over 45-meters at the just concluded awards at the end of October.
Here is a picture of the new "Kokomo" short of being carried into the water. You can see that her anchors are bottom hung to preserve the clean lines of the bow presumably. MCM
Interior and Exterior pictures of the 2010 launched and delivered Southern Wind 110RS "Thalima" are available on the builder's website.
Hi, I would say that a better line would be. You can see how some designer with no real world experience or sense got the anchors mounted in a place that while it cleans up the bow will provide the Capt and Crew ( of this yacht plus others observing the antics) with years of unreserved fun and delight when trying to A: Untangle the chains when the boat has swung around a few times when two are down or get caught with another yachts anchor when Med Moored. B: See how the Anchor has set or is holding. C: See which way the chain is leading when trying to retrieve the anchor D: Trying to work out if the flukes are straight and inline to go back into the pockets.
Ron, I think you have answered your own question with Post No 11 http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/97483-post11.html
Time to get this thread going again... So it seems that the 52-meter wooden-laminated triple master "Mikhail S. Vorontsov" was launched over the weekend. She was launched from the Balk Shipyard even though the hull was essentially built in Turkey at Dream Ship Victory.
I didn't even know that "Liara" lost her rig earlier this year. That's horrible! Liara Demasted - Images | Kevin Johnson Photography
