A 32 year old Pilot died went down in South Carolina on Saturday in the last minutes of the air show. Blue Angel #6 clipped some pine trees & crashed into several houses. From what I'm seeing on the internet, my guess is a mechanical problem.
Dave, Do you remember "Allison" who joined us for the Air & Sea Show? Her boyfriend Patrick, flew a C-130 Hercules (like Fat Albert) in the Air & Sea Show the previous year. After the show, Patrick came down to Shooters to join us and he brought some of his friends with him... the Blue Angels. They stayed long enough to watch the contest at Bootleggers and... a flight demo by yours truly. Talk about pressure! These guys were among the finest people you've ever met. Well spoken, articulate ambassadors to the human race. It was a great honor to have them aboard. That said, being a Blue Angel's pilot is a risky profession, but it doesn't go without reward. It's a sad day when we loose friends, but in this case, I take comfort in knowing he was doing what he loved the most.
Hi Carl Last year I took my family & stayed at Bahia Mar for the show. It was my 5 year old son's 3rd show & he loves them! We had the pleasure of meeting several of the pilots who were also staying there. Talk about nice people! Two of them were talking at the bar when they saw my son wide eyed, looking at them. Sure enough they both came over & introduced themselves & take some pictures. Before we knew it, they had other pilots & crew over to say hello & introduce themselves. I think I was more impressed than my son! One of them left for a few minutes & returned with some flight pins and a poster for my son which they all autographed. From the ground crew to the top pilots, they truly are wonderful people.
On a brighter note, this year's Air & Sea Show will feature the Air Force Thunderbirds, but that's not all... for the first time ever, two of the pilots are women. Everybody duck! http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/lo...pr28,0,4321162.story?coll=sfla-home-headlines
