In this short video you will see what appears to be a Riva-style type of gentleman runabout out of control. It is said the operator dropped overboard leaving the craft to maneuver to its own path. Thankfully law enforcement arrived and was able to put an officer onboard to bring the craft under control. This took place in Switzerland earlier in the month apparently.
Nicely done! "Honey, how was your day at work?" "Oh it was good... got to do a little James Bond action, that's all."
This is not actually an uncommon event on the lake we use to live on. It's normally fishing boats or bass boats involved and the kill switches not being used by the operator. People have been run over then by their own boat. There was also an event once with a drunk operator of a high speed jet boat. The technique used is to ram the boat but generally to reach for the key while doing so. Jumping in while it's still circling is done only on exceptions to the norm. Ejection from boats is still one of the most frequent preventable causes of boating deaths.
Nice turning rejoin, straight out of the book, well done. That looks like one of the finnish built (Linex Boat Oy) 30+ ft Nordstar Patrol of the "Bodensee Polizei" the Lake Constance water police. A combined police force of Switzerland, Austria and Germany. As the shores of the Lake Constance belong to those 3 countries and the lake itself is kind of No Man’s Land, the 3 countries have founded a combined water police force for that big lake. They use severals custom built patrol boats and the Swiss part uses as their smaller boats those Nordstar boats. Pretty agile and well built production FRP boats with Volvo Penta stern drives. There is a TV show going on in Germany, Austria and in the German speaking part of Switzerland about the Lake Constance Police at the moment. Those guys do a great job and are well known for their stunts. During summer time that lake is crowed with stupid or drunken boaters and the work load of this police force is pretty high. A picture of a parade of the Bodensee Polizei. The boat in the video is in the far left.
