A press release on an upcoming Russian luxury yacht show came across the wire and I just about fell over when reading it. Here it is...

"Russian luxury yacht and travel show announced"

    By IBI Magazine

Russia's first international trade fair dedicated to the luxury travel sector is planned to take place from September 19-22, 2006, in Moscow. The Luxury Leisure show will cover a variety of topics but the main focus is on yachts and luxury transport.

With 88,000 millionaires in Russia, luxury travel business is booming, and this will be reflected in the range of luxury cruise lines, yacht charters, sailing holidays, private jets, luxury railway offers, limousine services and luxury car rentals on offer.

Luxury Leisure is organised by Vienna, Austria-based MSI Fairs & Exhibitions and will take place at Crocus Expo, a 4,500m2 state-of-the-art exhibition venue built in 2004.

I would like to see a breakdown of what industries these rich folks are in...mostly oil, gas, marine and manufacturing I would think.

    Slow down there guys:

Are these 88,000 folks millionaires in Rubles, or Dollars?

There is a wee bit off difference there:
We could all be millionaires, or billionaires in Peso's or Rupe's or goat-dung, or whatever the local soft currency may be.

If these 88,000 Ruskies are indeed millionaires in US $ or Euro's, my hat off to the local economy in the former SR: Most of them probably need a yacht and a membership on this here board!

Bånski...(Russian for drink up my friends and let us celebrate the new yacht)

    Norseman,
The first weblink mentioned above (www.cdi.org) quotes a study done by Merrill Lynch w/Capgemini, as part of an analysis of other countries. So we can assume the figures are in US$.
It was indeed surprising to most of us. I'm willing to give the article's publisher the benefit of the doubt on this.
You're right. This 88,000 should be members of this Forum.
Who knows ... some of them probably are. And a lot more are probably lurking around now.
BTW, the article also states there are almost 2.5 million "Millionaires" living in the U.S. alone.

    Jimy,
    Thanks for the clarification.
That certainly explains the large number.

In addition, the 2007 issue of Forbes Magazine's "The World's Richest People" now lists -946- billionaires.
This is surely a good sign for the yachting industry.

Are they really millionaires, or just deeply in debt? This 45 minute, animated & narrated video exposes money as debt. It also raises some troubling questions...
