maybe not the curls, but definitely has the stacked pan cakes on deck. square block .. no grace. It is a sad attempt at resurrecting an icon-- ECO (now Enigma owned by London brothers) Enigma is unique ; it cut a new channel in the ocean, where Rising Sun is following the St. Elmos Fire in the moonlight hoping to not loose the trail of its wake. If function takes presidence over form, then really push the limits. I love Illona's hanger deck that drops the helo below like an aircraft carrier. Or Below deck dip pool or an engineering masterpiece like AIR or Skat, Octopus's Submarine bay. With all that space some really amazing things can be done. I also like the curved windows on BLING.
Although rising sun IMHO isn't so bad, when the sun sets and the light show starts then I can't help but think it may be the worse mega yacht on the water. For those who haven't seen it by night, it has neon lights around the deck that change colour......... good for a Honda Civic owned by a spotty 19 year old but not a mega, mega yacht!!! Chris
If i can just add one quick thought on Rising Sun, it would be that she is a spectacular yacht, an icon for many reasons, the main one for me being that she is an icon because she is so different, changing peoples perspectives of curvey yachts and strangely shaped windows. Her design is ingenious and perfect demonstation of function before form, and the form actually, to me, being very attractive. Its design is effectively, deck, deck, deck... window, window, window. Thats is in essence all you need. Ok, i'll shut up now.
I agree with nano-J. ENIGMA carries off the same themes as Rising Sun with much more success. It's as if Rising Sun was the crate they shipped ENIGMA in Kelly
Wise Kelly Kelly, Super observation! Rising sun is as poinant as screaming "I like milk!" Who cares. There is nothing spectacular about it ... except maybe its fuel or dockage bills. Deck, deck, deck, window window window can be accompilished with more verve. It doesn't have to be swoopy euro-styled, but it should always be spectacular. The Wally is spectacular, it may not fit everyone's taste, but it took design to another level. When a client spends that kind of money, they should be buying a yacht that doesn't look like a questionable 1st year college design project.
Hehe! Well, whatever people think about it, one thing is for sure - it has become one heck of a talking point! And at the end of the day, any publicity its good publicity... right? :s
True, it is like looking at enormous mole on someone's face and trying not to stare! I guess if it works for Pro wrestling-- it should work for yachting. The yacht that everyone loves to hate! The ultimate bad guy.... a ultra rich guy with NO taste!
