Rhodes or Alden design

    I'm searching for someone who might know older boat designs (from the 50 & 60's), and that might be able to identify a particular design as either a Rhodes or Alden design.

    It is posted over under the sailing section (as it is a motorsailer), and thus might not be seen by a lot of folks visiting this forum. So I thought I would post a notice under this general catagory for some older fellows to have a look:

    That is definitely a Philip Rhodes design. You can see it in the big International Marine book on Philip Rhodes - it is called a "Virginia Reel" Motorsailer. Several of the 44'swere built according to the book. The original owner of the Virginia Rell 44 also had Rhodes design a 65-foot version.

    Thanks JS, you are correct. The strangest thing is that one advertisement identified her as a Rhodes Discoverer, and of 52' in length. We have finally determined she was 44' in length (same as the original Virginia Reels), but built of fiberglass over in Asia. Most all the otheres were steel boats.

    I like this design...very similar to Alden's Hawksbill, except Alden's boat had a much prettier bow.

    For those of you that may be interested there is an old Alden design Motor Sailor at the Hinckley yard in Portsmouth RI. Its in a state of disrepair but the current owner ( a bit eccentric) never spared the change while doing upgrades. It's a real fixer upper but might be worth someones interest

    Unfortunately no.I can tell you that it is a centerboarde rand a ketch rig and it is in rough shape but judging by the corrosion it must be Corten Steel or something similar as it only has a surface rust It has been sitting for about 20 years and the corrosion is still surface rust. it is about 80 feet the last known name was Sargasso
