I know we all look at these advertisements and think this could work out as a bargain but maybe this one is too far gone as an economical project? Your thoughts? http://www.bluecycle.com/displayAuction.do?auctionId=3813031
Hi, Fish - I am surprised that someone who has seen so many piles of dung called boats as yourself would contemplate getting drawn into something like this. It looks like it has either had a road accident or been dropped , neither action is recommended for a long and joyful life if your are a fibreglass fizz boat.
I know, I know. I've seen enough graveyards over the years, I fancied the engines to be honest. A pair of D12s for less than the price of 1 new one sounded alright to me.
Hey, knock it off you guys. A little gentle work with a chainsaw will liberate 2 engines and g/boxes, a genset, bowthruster, windlass, electronics and interior doohickies. That has to be worth more than 55k even in todays market. Excuse me, just off to feed the junkyard dog, yessum!
Hi, If you knew all that gear was undamaged it might be worth a look, in my experience an impact that does that damage to a fibreglass hull also damaged other gear.
Just a quick thought. What the heck can you do with a junk hull like that? Are you allowed to put it through a wood-chipper these days? How picky will the envirocrats be about recycling? Costs involved? I have had no experience with fibregrass disposal. Anyone tried? P.S. I would never touch a clunker like that anyway, thats why wooden boats were made, idiots like me.
By the look of it, it ran on the rocks and was thoroughly pounded by seas. I seriously doubt if a single bit of the electrics beneath the masthead light are worth removing and the money to rebuild the donks and gearboxes to the level where their condition and warranty overcomes their history might be more than think. This looks like a dream that will quickly turn into a nightmare.
Current bid is 55k BPS + VAT brings it to 64+k and the reserve has not yet been met. The real question is "What is the reserve set at?" and I'll bet it's over BPS 100k and I doubt you'll be able to come out ahead on that. I think the only person who could come out on that boat is someone who owns a yard and needs a project tto keep the guys busy when it's slow, and I'm not sure even they can..
