my contractor i have polishing the hull yesterday decided to wax the windows, i am having a real pain in the @$$ time getting the wax off enough to get them clean without streaking. i have tried everthing i can think of: rubbing alcohol, white Vinegar, Windex, Rain-x, Simple Green, 4U, hot almost boiling water, nothing is working. does anyone have any tricks that will work to get the wax off ? these are tinted acrylic windows, so i cannot use any harsh chemicals or razor blades.
Mike, Try this as it has worked for me. Heat up the window with a hair dryer, to make the wax soft. Use a window squeegee or rubber side of an ice scraper and pull downwards. The wax should stick to this. Final part to remove any remaining bits is to wash down using warm water with washing soda in it. (Make sure that the soda has fully dissolved) This is not harsh method and has left my windows wax free. Jay
Mike, just found this link. See bottom page 3 and specialty aerosols on page 4. http://www.autobodybrands.com/pdf/2005_5Star_Catalog.pdf These products are safe for acrylic. Jay
i told my contractor that he was responsible for removing the wax, he basically told me to take it where the sun don't shine. told me that i would be able to wash the windows again AFTER the wax wore off, and that'll be in a few months. he'll no longer step foot on this yacht. i talked to a few of my old buddies who used to detail cars, and found the trick SCRUBBING BUBBLES !!! and a white 3m pad, worked like a charm.
Happy new year everyone! Next time an option could be to get them to mask windows with 3M masking tape. It will peel off easily leaving no residue.
