  1. Lurssen 86.5-meter superyacht "ACE" launches

German custom superyacht manufacturer Lurssen recently launched their first superyacht for 2012. She is the 86.5-meter superyacht called 'Project Rocky' under construction and now has her final name, "ACE". ACE was launched on Monday January 9, 2012 at Lurssen.

ACE has both her interior and exterior designed by esteemed and world renowned designer Andrew Winch. The interior is described as being classical in styling and decor and is also very spacious with her 14.5-meter (47.5-feet) overall beam. Additionally she has a 4-meter draft.

ACE is powered by dual MTU 16V 4000 engines. She also has three MTU generators for electrical production onboard. The accommodation is set out for twelve guests in six spacious staterooms. ACE will carry thirty crew members.

ACE combines Andrew Winch's radical exterior styling into a contemporary superyacht design. Even though she spans across five decks above the waterline and is over 280-feet long, ACE maintains a balanced yet sleek appearance. One of the outstanding styling features on ACE is the arch that starts on the upper deck underneath the bridge-wing 'bulges' and rises to the midships bridge deck area before swooping down elegantly towards the aft, terminating in the aft main deck bulwark.

The result is a clean design arch that captures the attention immediately. They also serve to connect the flow of stairs that run from swim platform aft all the way up to the midships bridge deck on both sides and meeting at another design feature, the 'oval' in which her name is proudly and prominently displayed.

The Ovals on both sides of the yacht are actually balconies. Below the balcony is another design feature that purposely ends in 'mid air'. It gives the impression that the structure is suspended in such a manner that it defies gravity. Finally, another of the hallmark features is a nearly 100-percent enclosed bridge deck. No traditional open aft deck overhang here, the entire area is glassed-in adding to a slightly different aft profile. ACE will be handed over to her owners after she completes sea trials and other requisite detailing.
