Should they be open or closed most of the time?

Do they often leak when older ?

25 foot Alum hulled Rib has been noticeably taking on water this year. I closed the scuppers today.

I figured someone here could educate me on scuppers. I felt I would close them for a week and see if it stops. If not then it's likely not them.

Scuppers should be self draining. On big RIBs, they get wet. Never had a problem with a hull filling up by it's self.

The scuppers on this boat are under the waterline. They appear to have a one way door or ball that allows water out but not in.
The decks are also self draining.
