Would be much simpler for them simply to offer delivery in their own trucks rather than just through Instacart. In much of the country, Safeway/Albertson's has their own refrigerated trucks and offers delivery. You can order online. We got some huge orders through them when on the west coast. In Myrtle Beach, Lowes delivers and we've used their service when at Grande Dunes. Delivery is the way of the future and in many areas the way of today. Delivery through services like Instacart is fine for a few things but not when you're getting many cases of water or soft drinks and also not when you need items refrigerated or in freezers during the delivery.

Publix did that back around 2001/2002... too early they stopped the service after a couple of years.

Instacart works great... we use it a lot especially for heavy stuff like cases of water etc. never had an issue with perishables. They arrive as cold as if we go ourself

Well, Publix better wake back up, although don't know that they compete with Albertson's/Safeway anywhere since they bought all the FL stores.

Have you ever had Instacart deliver in anything other than a normal passenger vehicle? I'm asking as I've never seen them in a vehicle that could accommodate 25 cases of drinks or more along with all the other items and I've never seen them with hand trucks or large carts.

On our largest delivery, we did contact Safeway a couple of days early and they actually made arrangements to deliver everything but the water and other drinks on one truck and those on a separate truck.

And, I'm not criticizing Instacart as we love them and hate grocery shopping. Only way to buy groceries from Sam's or Costco. Good from Sprouts, Kroger, Whole Foods and many others. Also, liquor stores for those interested.

Loved that Publix service when it was running. Flaw was they they set no minimums and no delivery charges. Should have had a sliding scale that lowered the deliver to free as the order increased in value, or some such.

It was a great service with a poor business plan. Easily fixed, but apparently easier for them to flush the start up than to work out the kinks.

Albertson's/Safeway is $9.95 per delivery plus $3.95 in many areas. However, if you choose a 2 hour window they knock $3 off and a 4 hour window they knock $6 off. They're also offering a year for $98 and there still is the $3.95 in most areas for the personal shopper. Minimum order $30 or so. They've been doing it long enough to know the costs now too and to know how to balance cost and added business.

Delivery is also how you fight internet and people like Amazon. We deliver from all our businesses. Walmart is very aggressive on delivery although their grocery delivery leaves a bit to be desired. They use different people in different markets and often people like Doordash or Uber. Target uses Shipt, which they own.
