My 1981 Monterey (26' with a 260hp Mercruiser) doesn't plane out as easily as I would like. Trim tabs don't seem to help much. I'm cruising on a large lake, not a river. I don't need to get out of the "hole" real fast. No tubers or skiers on this craft.
Current prop is a 13 pitch (I think). Does anyone have a similar boat with a like problem? Interested to know if a 15 or 17 pitch would help me get on plane faster & easier?

Wrong way on the numbers. Smaller pitch, engine revs up faster.
    BUT, The important questions are;
    Clean bottom?
    Undamaged props? Really?
Can you make the recommended rpm on the engines at WOT? Really?
Do you still have that unused hibachi grill and gobs of other dead weight on board? What you must have on board is not loaded in the stern?

Please comeback with these answers and this forum can help.

    RCRAPPS,
Hull is clean, repainted last season.
Prop shows no unusual damage. The normal nicks & dings.
What do you mean by "WOT?"
Nothing stowed in the stern, other that the basic necessities.
Not much in the dead weight department. She's a weekender, so I don't keep much on board.
    Thanks,
    Tom

I'm assuming this is a new problem.
Repainted last season don't mean much. Has your diver given a clean report lately?
Nicks on the wheel means they have hit something. Small branches and shallow brushes with a bar can still damage a wheel.
WOT = Wide open throttle. Your gas engines should spin up to around 4500 rpm @ wide open throttle (check your engine specs). When all conditions are met, this is the rule for setting the correct pitch on your wheels.
To much rpm, add pitch, too little something is wrong or to much pitch.

Not sure what else I can tell you.
I wondered if a different pitch prop would help my planning problem?
If someone has a similar sized single engine Carver, I'd be interested in what kind of prop they may have.
    Thanks.

What do you mean by doesn't plane out as easily as you would like?

1)- does it get on plane?
2)- once on plane and you accelerate to WOT, what RPM do you get?
3)- what is the fuel load, how many people when you do the test?
4)- did you actually check that the bottom was clean?
5)- how old is the prop? Could the hub have spun?
6)- make sure your trim tabs are all the way down, are they ?

260 hp isnt much for an aging 26 footer, it wont take much to affect performance
