On the heels of the 2008 FLIBS and while many yachts are in the South Florida area, was the Boys & Girls Clubs Rendezvous. The Rendezvous is for yachties to have a good time while generating financial support for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County. The Clubs support local youths with programs and events, helping to lead them to productive and safe lives. The Rendezvous included many activities for yacht owners and guest over three days, including silent auctions, yacht hops, dinner dances, christenings, a fashion show, and shopping. With a number of sponsors, including our friends at ShowBoats International magazine, and Rybovich Marina hosting the vessels, this is a must-attend event for yacht owners to unwind, network and give to a great cause. One event was the '50s Costume Ball and Dinner at the Cars of Dreams Museum. This is not any old museum; it's chock full of old cars, from classics to muscle cars and a bunch in between, all in perfect, pristine condition. Only open for charity events, the museum is housed in a former big-box retail store, and has been transformed to include a city street scene, drive-in, gas station, firehouse and more. The museum is owned by John Staluppi, owner of the Christensen M/Y Casino Royale and a guy who has been surrounded by cars pretty much his whole life. For anyone who admires cars of yesteryear or grew up tinkering on cars (like I did), seeing the machines Staluppi has gathered under one roof is like a kid walking into a candy store. I'm still drooling. We have some photos to share, but for more info and pics, check out the museum's website at carsofdreams.com. So grab your leather jacket, comb your hair back and enjoy the trip to the past.
You want Corvettes, we got Corvettes. Hey, fugedabotit! Who stuck that Corvair in there, we said Corvettes.
Great shots Tom. It brought me back, especially the gas cap under the tail light. I remember when I was pumping gas back in the early 60's bending a couple of license plates while trying to find where it was hidden on different cars. Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane.
Great shots. You gave us Boat Babes, but only a few of the Driver Dolls. Thanks for the inside look. Judy
Thanks Tom, that was excellent. Those cars truly excite more than the babes ... had to walk out to get the mail bent at the waist That has got to be one of the best displays of classics in the world. Thank you for allowing the underpriviledged a peak.
I was a teenager when those magnificent cars were built. Thanks so much Capt. Tom. And thanks to Mr. Staluppi for preserving these historic cars.
