Post 50 Cat performance

Which Cats and HP. I'd take the CATS over the MAN's just for ease and cheapness of maintanence. I ran a 50' Post with 820hp Man's and the boat cruised around 27 knots with a hardtop and I think it burned right around 50gph.

They're great engines with the updates. A knot slower and 5 gph more than the mans.

Well, my wife the ex teacher always wants to jump in and correct but resists. Although right now I am having to hold on to the tablet and hold her down so she can't get hers. Good thing she's tired or she'd break free and do it. But we should have been asleep 4 hours ago and something else came up.

And Carl was only posting to try to assist you in getting maximum responses, not as a punctuation czar. Run on sentences tend to lose readers. If I know Carl, he probably has research on that even.

Back to the topic at hand, I am new to my boat, but basically the same package as you; 3406e's in a '02 50'.

I see a light cruise at 1950 rpms, yielding 25kts and 56gph. Based off the CAT displays. on the pins, it was 32 its, forget the gph.

Overall, in the 30 hrs or so I have put on the boat so far, I really like the engines. Very low to no soot, low smoke, almost no diesel smell. All the filters changed out quite easily, and the people at RingPower in Tampa were very thorough during the sea trial. Best of Luck with it.

and yes, if anyone was thinking of it, I did figure out the ~blanking~ washing machine. Although I do have a blown fitting on it, but thats another story.

I believe that it's 2350 if I'm not mistaken. I would strongly recommend you get all the service records on the engines, as well as have a CAT tech on board for the trial. He will run all the diagnostics on the engines as well as work a proper sea trial with the captain. Sea trials are tough. The draw of a shiny new to you boat, all the things to inspect. Best to leave the mechanicals to an expert. And also, they go by way too fast! Be sure to take your time and really feel out the boat. Varying speeds, seas, drift a bit. Think of what you normally do with your boat and recreate that.

So what happened?? Did you buy the boat??
