This is always one if those depends types of questions so here are some equalizes.

I am looking for some thoughts comparing a Calfornian 48 CPMY to a Carver 504
Cal is a pre 90. The Carver late 90s

    1. Both good condition mechanically and finish
    2 Similar nav electronics
    3. The cal has the Cat the Carver has Volvo 63
    4 Similar price range

We live in AZ. I work in CA (San Diego or Long Beach) but can tele commute from AZ to CA as needed. We expect 2 to 3 month live aboard in summers. (Beat the AZ heat), Coastal cruising , Catalina on occasion. Day cruises with friends. No passage of long range plans.

So the question is the trade off of stronger built older Cal with older systems or a bit lesser built but updated Carver. Is ride a factor considering these are plus 40k and both modified displacement. Newer Volvo designed power vs older Cats.

So kind of in the end older bit better built or newer and less use on systems.

    Thanks

One fit I have with the Cal's, The side (wing) doors to the deck and companionway is skinny. I have a lil beam but still have to turn sideways to go on deck.

I would consider the Cat vs. Volvo ..... Service and reliability.
