Caterpillar dealers are a reliable place to have your oil analyzed and usually have the means to do so. You simply buy the kit from the parts department and stick it in the mail.....

    Hi,

Oil Samples as a one time shot are not much good unless you already have serious problems.

They are best done regularly and any changes in the lube can be picked up and monitored as the trends develop.

CAT is a good place to start also most Oil Co's have a Lube Test facility

You can also try one of these services.

For the most part is true, especially regarding metal content as there is no baseline to compare them to . However I've seen oil samples where it did prevent a problem. High sodium content on 2 different generators. 1 had an exhaust riser that was starting to leak, the other had a livewell above it and it was getting a saltwater mist/bath......

    Hi,

When you get the samples done make sure they check for FO Dilution as one of the tests.

Some CAT Engines I keep an eye on will always return 1% after 250 hrs on the Oil, as this is a usual number should it be 2% or more next time I will know that something has changed and start looking for the cause.
