New Zealand Yacht Developments has a 84 foot long sloop rig sail yacht under construction currently. The construction is well underway and according to the builders, the 'Angel' should be launched this month (December) with delivery in early 2008. The construction of the Angel is being overseen by the MCM construction management team. The interior and exterior design was created by Lagan Designer Associates while she is being constructed by NZYD. For a vessel this size, composite materials were selected for the primary construction material. The final colour arrangement will be a black hull and white deck cockpit region. Following the composite trend, the mast and boom will be made from high strength carbon fiber materials. There is to be a total sail area of 295.3 square meters of sail. The two fore sails will be operated hydraulically using a furling system. On the interior of Angel, there will be provision for a generous owner's stateroom. There will also be two rooms for the guests and one guest cabin. At half load, the Angel will weigh only 45 tonnes with a 15 tonne lead ballast. This is due to the composite construction and the small overall size. Inside, there is to be a 275HP Lugger L1066H engine for motoring. The engine will run at near 2,400 RPM. On the other hand, to provide electricity onboard, there will be a generator. To be specific, it will be a Kohler M864w generator and it is rated at 25kW. Here are some statistics on the Angel: LOA: 25.45M or 83.5ft LWL: 20.5M or 67.26ft Beam: 6.12M or 20.08ft Draft: 3M or 9.84ft Displ half load: 45.0 tonnes approx Ballast: 15 tonnes approx Main engine: Lugger L1066H 275HP@2400rpm Generators: 1 x Kohler M864w 25kW@1800rpm For more information travel to the builder website at: http://www.ydl.co.nz/pages/YDL64langan.htm http://www.ydl.co.nz http://www.mcmnewport.com/English/CONSTRUCTION+MANAGEMENT/ANGEL.html
