Hi I am currently living in Valencia (Spain) and came here specifically to learn to sail and to work for the Louis Vuitton Regattas. I arrived at the end of January 2006 and have so far obtained my coastal skipper certificate and am starting the next course ('Patron de Yates' - which qualifies me to skipper a boat up to 20m LOA and 60 miles from the coast) at the end of this month - exam in July. By the end of the year I hope to also have passed the final 'titulo' 'Capitan de Yates' which is = to the Offshore licence. Plus I am also taking my scuba diving qualifications. Besides these qualifications I am a fit, sporty 44 year old woman who loves outdoor physical work, prior to this I worked in media sales in London and for the last 3 years ran my own real estate business in Andalucia, plus have restored a number of properties undertaking all of the painting and decorating. At the end of this year I plan to move to the French Riviera or Mallorca to look for work as a crew member or a land based job in brokerage/charter. My questions are..... Having little sailing experience what kind of crew position could I obtain? Besides the sailing itself, my favourite areas are navigation, metereology, communications and legislation/regulations. I speak fluent Spanish, English and some French.....plus Swahili (only of use off the E.African coast!). I have a clean driving licence. Any useful pointers as to how and who I should contact with regards to crew placement for these areas? Also, what additional skills are in demand by boatowners and Captains, besides those that involve being galley bound If anyone needs any info about the Louis Vuitton regattas let me know....! Hasta pronto! Che
