  1. "Maveric I"; The Latest From Palmer Johnson
Former U.S yacht builder Palmer Johnson is still around and they recently unveiled images to a design they call the PJ63 Sport, a sporty and svelte looking craft christened as "Maveric I". The vessel was launched a few months ago and actually made its debut at the 2022 Monaco Yacht Show (MYS). Although the vessel is from this former American builder it was not constructed anywhere in America. In fact, remember Palmer Johnson closed their Sturgeon Bay facilities nearly 8 years ago. The design inside and out as well as Naval Architecture is by Palmer Johnson.
  2. The vessel was actually made in Europe and fitted out in Italy to be specific. It is made of Carbon which takes the memory back to the sole carbon Super Sport model they managed to complete called "Khalilah". With this vessel they have actually taken the sponson engineering from the Super Sport model and applied it. At present Palmer Johnson has scaled back the size of their yachts and are currently working their way back to building bigger. For now we will see more sporty day-boat type vessel coming from this yard. On the horizon though, they are working in the design phase on yachts between 36 to 55-meters.
  3. The PJ63 Sport is a a bit more than a day-boat although it can function as one. The interior of Maveric I is an "evocative retreat" that utilizes modern shapes with white as the base and warmer tones for color contrast. Indirect LED lighting punctuates various corners and gaps, drawing the eye towards a uniform design flow throughout the interior. Below is an example of how the main salon area looks.
  4. Onboard there is a two cabin layout which features a master suite as well as a guest cabin further forward. The same design language filters into the cabins making it a playful but relaxed atmosphere. The room even features a window seat for relaxing and watching the scenery go by while underway or at anchor. Below is an example of how the cabin appears.
  5. The deck space is offering two main zones which are divided in the sense that the inner +zone is covered by the hard top and the other is more aft and in the open. The aft seating forms to function as sunpads while the forward section is a bit more formal served by two smaller cocktail tables. Look at the hardtop with its aggressive yet refined C-shaped supports and then beefy black top punctuated with a few windows to allow for natural light to pass through to the general space.
  6. Palmer Johnson also set out to make this vessel environmentally friendly too. The yard suggested that the eco-credentials of its latest models put it, "on a good path to enabling larger zero-emission yachts where the company has set its sights". From a fuel emissions perspective, the PJ63 Sport is said to be 33% more efficient compared to older yachts in the Palmer Johnson range. The yacht can be pushed towards a 34-knot speed using its triple Volvo Penta IPSI D600s. Length overall is 19.4-meters with a beam of 6.3-meters and a draft of 1.25-meters. Both the hull and superstructure are made in Carbon composites. The vessel can sleep 4 persons comfortably with 1 crew.
