Nordhavn 148 Announced At 2019 FLIBS​

Nordhavn and Vripack announced a partnership for a new Nordhavn explorer yacht called the N148. The new N148 was announced at the ongoing 2019 edition of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS). This is indeed a new direction for Nordhavn in-terms of styling, deck arrangement and simply the overall look of the design. It is designed to Class with Ice capability allowing the adventures into colder regions of the world with less of a worry. Also, it is the first metal yacht for Nordhavn!

The collaboration with Vripack is welcomed with their long-standing expertise and it wouldn't be totally strange to Nordhavn either as they have worked together on the N80. "Nordhavn were keen to tap into our explorer heritage," says Marnix Hoekstra, co-creative director at Vripack. "Nordhavn boats are renowned for venturing to remote off-the-beaten-track destinations, and so the aim was to demonstrate to owners that this significant latest model has been conceived by a design studio that has a proven track record in this arena."

One of the added advantages of a physically larger boat is the interior volume goes up. The Nordhavn 120 is the current flagship of the range that is in service today and that has a GT of 400. The Nordhavn 148 is approximately 25-percent larger in interior volume at 495 GT.

Pacific Asian Enterprises (PAE), the manufacturer of Nordhavns say they expect to be able to build this vessel in less than two years from signing. Up to twelve guests can be accommodated onboard. The deck plans suggest an on-deck full-beam master suite and four cabins on the lower deck comprising of two doubles and two twins. We imagine the twins perhaps have pullman berths.

The N148's short specifications include an LOA of 45-meters, full-beam of 8.60-meters and a draft of 2.70-meters. Her power-plants were not listed at press time but they did indicate a top speed plus or minus 14-knots. GT is under 500 with the ability to carry up to 12 inclusive of owner and guests. 10 crew are accommodated onboard to run the affairs of the N148 yacht. One thing that has not changed is the ability to store at least two tenders on board. In the case of the N148 they are stored on the bow along with a couple PWCs serviced by a dedicated crane.
