Lyman-Morse is is name you do not typically hear in every day discussion but the builder has a new cold molded cruiser that effortlessly blends modern propulsion, technology and classic New England styling. It is called the Hood 42 LM which as the name suggest is a 42-foot timeless modern cruiser with New England lines designed by C.W. Hood Yacht Design.

Yes the construction is cold molded utilizing Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar timbers combined with composite laminates that offer a finished result that is strong, rigid but also relatively lightweight. The Hood 42 LM follows in the footsteps of previous popular builds like the Hood 35 LM and the inspiring Hood 57 LM.

The Hood 42 LM carries the unmistakable profile that has become synonymous with New England boating. The model is therefore inspired by the classic designs that have graced the region for generations, her graceful sheer, varnished mahogany house sides, bronze bow rail detailing as well as generally elegant proportions present a timeless era of yachting that is now in the past. However, under the veil of this traditional appearance lies thoroughly modern engineering and technology as well as creature comforts. For example, the model isn't driven by old-style diesels. Instead - under-the-hood - there are a pair of Volvo Penta 440-horsepower coupled with DPS drives deliver responsive handling, joystick maneuverability, excellent fuel efficiency, and a cruising speed in the mid-30-knot range and top speed of 39-knots.

The first hull of the Hood 42 LM showcases just how customized and personalized each series-built yacht can become for an owner. Some of these personalized features include a hideaway electronics console at the lower helm or custom-forged bronze fittings designed exclusively to secure fenders while blending seamlessly in with the 42’s profile. Similarly, a carbon-fiber companionway door is wrapped in perfectly varnished veneers with a counter-balanced drop window and screen. Even the salon side and aft windows electrically lower and raise, while integrated screens deploy effortlessly. The Spruce and Teak ladder from the cockpit to the flybridge is shaped for both easy access and to complement the exterior profile. Individually, each detail is impressive. Collectively, they reveal the obsessive pursuit of refinement that defined the entire build process.

The Hood 42 LM carries an LOA of 42-feet with a beam of 13-feet and a draft of 3.4-feet. All very small marina-friendly dimensions and also helpful for anchorage in nearshore coves. The flybridge cruiser weighs in at 21,000 lbs when full. An additional feature is an 'integral' charging system on both engines enabling a quick charge of lithium-ION battery bank to run systems and air condition at night silently with no generator!
