  1. 114-meter Project 'Cosmos' Hits The Water At Lurssen
One of the most anticipated superyachts to come from custom superyacht builder Lurssen is the 114-meter Project 'Cosmos'. Lurssen builds 100-plus meter superyachts all the time but this one is much different from anything they have built before. Her design is by Marc Newson, the same pen behind "Solaris". Even then, he gave Cosmos a form and shape that has not really been seen in the industry before, a flat-profiled explorer. The yacht will be delivered to her Japanese owner in 2026. 2. Besides the form-factor, she is also a fuel-cell yacht making her one of the first large-scale superyacht to employ the technology. Feadship's "Breakthrough" was the first. Cosmos has a Methanol cell onboard that will convert hydrogen into electricity for power. Aside from the highly technical conversion plant onboard, she was built with an Ice Class 1D hull. While that is not the thickest hull in the Ice Class rating, this will still allow her to travel into light icing conditions. This still opens her up to extreme latitude cruising.
  3. One of the standout features onboard that is visually impactful is a very large glass dome that sits between the funnels and the main mast. This engineering feat is a totally custom feature that encloses the owner's private study. The glass dome also has a glass bridge walkway that leads to an outdoor terrace. Not only was it difficult to create the curved glass but also at the thickness required.
  4. The aft main deck features a large pool area synonymous with the general design of Solaris in that area. However, further aft there is a large cutout for a drydock bay which will house a large tender when underway. The floodable space will make it possible to launch and recover the vessel when required. The owner will also have the choice to be able to come and go via helicopter thanks to the yacht's fully-capable "H". Cosmos is one of many 100-plus meter superyachts Lurssen has under construction currently. The yard recently launched the 134.2-meter Project 'Deep Blue' and has the 102.7-meter Project 'Jassj' to launch this year as well.
