  1. 55-meter Feadship Explorer "Shinkai" Launched
Feadship has launched another yacht and this time it is the 55-meter explorer superyacht "Shinkai". She was under construction as hull 708 and built for an experienced owner who will no doubt take her on long-range missions across the seas. Shinkai has been designed by Vitruvius Yachts in particularly Philippe Briand. As a result of the scope of use Shinkai is planned for, a number of special features have been built in to the yacht. As the planned adventures include taking on the North-West and North-East Passages, the former Project 708 was built with a steel hull strengthened to ice class. It also includes an advanced sonar system to explore the ocean floor. Below we see an image at launch taken by Dutch Yachting.
  2. Additionally, because of where this vessel is likely to travel and the increased chance of ice encounters the hull was not fitted with regular finned stabilizers. These appendages could easily be damaged by submerged sections or floating ice. The solution was to build the largest gyroscopic system made to date. Her aft main deck is home to several toys served by two cranes. One specialized crane is to deal with the movement of the limo tender as well as the 6.3-tonne submarine. This is a 7,000 KG capacity crane fixed to the aft section of the main deck. The owner's vehicle will also be lifted on and offshore via this method.
  3. Onboard will have the regular creature comforts especially needed for northern latitudes. The interior was designed by Daniela Boutsen of Boutsen Design and features approximately 499 GT worth of interior volume. The 180.5-foot (54.9-meter) superyacht first arrived in Aalsmeer back on October 30th, 2020. Feadship says Shinkai will be delivered to her experienced owner at the end of this year. At 54.9-meters LOA, the vessel has a decent beam of 10.35-meters. She is diesel-powered and is expected to produce a 14.5-knot top speed with a 5,500 nautical mile range at 12-knots.
