A new design has surfaced coming from Columbus Yachts showcasing what they call the Columbus 40 Crossover Explorer. The designers are incorporating a trend that is now becoming familiar and regularly used -folding bulwarks on the aft main deck area to make more space-. This mechanism is on display here which is envisioned to be utilized by guests mainly while at anchor or certain ports/marinas. That aft deck has a plunge pool and teaked real estate for sun loungers and two stairs aft lead you down to the swim platform where a transformer is hidden in the platform to allow easy access to the water or even the dock. The aft main deck though can carry a tender up to 8-meters.

As an explorer-of-sorts, the Columbus 40 Crossover is equipped for longer journeys. Guests and owner who may be onboard during longer passages can be slept in as many as five cabins. There is a full-beam master suite on the forward main deck while there are four guest cabins on the lower deck. A handy economical range of 4,000 nautical miles or more can be expected. Bare in mind this is a concept design at this stage and there is no real indication that this is under construction. In fact the Crossover is actually a range of yachts and not just relegated to the solitary 40-meter. Designed by Hydro-Tec, there is a 50 and a 57-meter variant Crossover.
