"Nurja" Relaunched After Extensive Refit At A&R

The 41-meter Abeking & Rasmussen (A&R) SWATH yacht originally delivered in 2008 as "Silver Cloud" was back at the builder in the last few years for a major refit. The yacht, now called "Nurja", has dropped her Blue hulls and white superstructure for more moody Grey exterior color. That is the first of the changes easily visible to the eye. The yacht arrived at A&R back in early 2021 to commence her refit period after being sold in late 2020. All images credited via Drduu social media.

The yacht only re-emerged from that refit around August 19th, 2024. So what did A&R execute on Nurja during this lengthy refit? A few modifications are visible to the naked eye besides the new paint. The upper aft deck overhang has been significantly lengthened which allowed for more space on the sundeck aft of the bridge as well as the addition of extra glazing that wasn't there before the deck below. The aft bulwarks along the hulls have also been modified. Instead of remaining full-height all the way around the hulls as was before they were notched out and railings added to remain safety conforming but improve the views out from the aft main deck area.

A jacuzzi used to be perched on the starboard side of the aft bridge deck but that has been removed and tender storage is now used transversely on the newly expanded deck. The current owners have done a lot with the vessel while still maintaining its original charm. The original owners were drawn to this SWATH platform because the wife regularly became sea sick on monohulls. After being invited on one of A&R's SWATH-platformed pilot launches and being taken to the North Sea, they were sold on the idea and that is how Silver Cloud was born.
