One of the more exciting projects that was under construction to launch this year was project "PHI" which has now been officially named "PHI". Being built in The Netherlands PHI is one of two yachts that was under construction for the same owner. The other being the 36-meter "PHI Phantom", which is a shadow support vessel built at ALIA Yachts in Turkey to reinforce the owners superyacht operations. As for the mothership, she too was designed by Cor D. Rover which largely influenced this refreshing exterior design.

On the interior, that was designed by a name normally not heard...Lawson Robb, is a UK-based studio. Naval Architecture of the all aluminium build was by Van Oossanen Architects. Besides her aggressive but softer exterior lines thanks to many subtle curves and sharpened edges one of the biggest features onboard for engineering was the pool. The main pool at the aft end of the main deck is just under seven (7) meters long and has a floating floor...meaning that it can be moved to adjust the depth of the pool or raised to the surface to act as a pool cover. PHI has an interesting system of its exterior accent lighting, utilizing lasers! What normally is done by LEDs has been replaced by lasers. The consensus is that LED lighting looks good but when it fails and leaves unsightly gaps in the exterior lighting and sometimes because of where it is located may require tricky means to rectify when the vessel is in service. Over 1,500 meters of optical fibers are illuminated by lasers and those lasers and located within the yacht easily accessible to change if one were to fail. At 58.5-meters PHI is the longest superyacht in the world that sits below the 500 GT mark. PHI will be delivered later this year to her experienced owner.
