Hi guys, great site! I hope this is the right area to post this:

I am very new to the yacht world. My family recently enjoyed a trip in an Azimut Yacht over in Santorini while on vacation, and fell in love. We have a house in Kefalonia, Greece, and would love to purchase a 40 to 50 foot boat to enjoy the waters around the island, as well as visit family members all over Greece.

My Dad and I have grown partial to the Azimut 42S while researching online. I can't seem to find anything else with a look comparable to Azimut in that range of sizes. I guess what I'm looking for is any real information from people with experiences in owning Azimut boats, or any information on owning a comparable boat. This is all new to me and I want to make sure I do my fair share of research before we invest. Thank you in advance!

Ok, then what would you recommend? What is wrong with their quality? Do you have experience with them?

Not much difference between Pershing and Azimut quality wise. Both are decent boats that are good for what they were designed to do....... cruising short distances from marina to marina, not bashing around in heavy weather.

ok, that's all we want the boat for, not really planning on bashing it around in bad weather

And i'm guessing you know just the guy to speak to if he wants one? :p

Azimut certainly not the best quality boat around but for what he wants it for it's fine. You might also look at Fairline who have a better hull quality and overall finish.

thanks guys! I realize my questions will lead to opinionated answers, but that's jsut fine. I'd rather get opinionated information than none at all, and those are some beautiful options to the Azimut.

My first instinct was for the LSX 75.. but $3.5 million wasn't exactly what we wanted to spend on our first yacht

what would you guys recommend doing to gain experience with the boat before we start just taking it out on our own? I have experience with much smaller boats in much calmer waters, so I want to make sure I know exactly what I'm doing before I get out there.

Thanks for all the help guys!

One of our members had a new Fairline 48 built recently and took us through the whole experience.
Everyone was very positive on the boat and it's performance, finishing etc. He's been away from the forum recently, obviously enjoying his new toy, but if I remember correctly, he's already thinking about selling and moving up to a bigger Yacht. Maybe give him a call, and also read the tread...

So now I have research into Uniesse, Riva, and Primatist as well!

It's a good thing there aren't an amazing amount of options out there!

Anyone have anything on these three?

its the best for visibilty for in port manoeuvring. Then underway its the fun place to drive from.

whilst you can get a license in Greece pretty easy for what you want to do, its also better to follow MCA qualifications. You can find many schools in the med and make several holidays there to get a good qualification or just as much experience as you want. much fun although it costs a lot. The experience gained from good instructors though....priceless. I am sure that if you buy a new boat the dealer will provide a short familiarisation and you can hire a delivery captain to show you the boat for a while but also better to follow a proper programme with theory as well.

If you don't have a licence already then as mentioned, there are many schools in the med/world.
If you do have a licence but don't feel too confident then why not ask the boat supplier to provide you with a skipper for a couple of days to do a full handover/tuition
