I wonder how long it will take before this new jet powered flyboard will become a de rigueur superyacht toy?

What will they think of next!!!:):):):)

Flying Fox has a Zapata flyboard, although I don't know if it's the same version as the one that crossed the English Channel.

I think if you google him and check out his wiki article you will be surprised with where his invention could end up being used for if not the recreational market.

Wish my French was better but the video speaks for itself! Check at time mark :54 to see a close up of the bottom of the craft.

Slight problem for yachts -- it is an actual jet engine and the super-hot exhaust roaring from the bottom will melt fiberglass or turn teak into cinders.

Excellent observation! Perhaps that is why he uses an elevated platform for his take offs and landings?

Hey, if there's certified jet ski instructors course and certified tender driver courses available out there than Bluewater is already thinking up a course for "Certified Jet Flyboard Instructor"!!

No thanks! I tried my kids "hoverboard" (2 wheeled battery thingy) and ended up flat on my back in seconds. I did see that Zapata crashed into the English Channel when attempting a crossing on his invention.
By the way, these people made it farther than me before they crashed.

As much as I fancy those toys/technologies, I really dislike them at sea. It is the permanent discrepancy between my personal freedom to do as I want and the respect towards others. The personal freedom ends where it interferes with the freedom of others, and I personally feel annoyed by motor surfboards, drones and in future possibly jet fly boards over and around my boat.

Some time, I don't know if it can get any worse.

Last time we were anchored at Staniel Cay, there was a charter boat with a guest on a jet ski that was zooming around the anchorage. I told my wife I thought he was going to hit someone sooner or later. About thirty minutes later, we watched him ram the transom of the charter boat and run the jet ski most of the way onto the swim platform before being ejected, apparently unhurt.

Earlier, a large Miami based yacht had anchored near us at Allan's Cay. We watched the owner, again on a jet ski, keep zooming by his girlfriend on a SUP, trying to swamp her all afternoon. That night, they went to Iguana Beach and shot fireworks from the beach, while I had fantasies of limpet mines. The next morning, I told my wife that I wouldn't have been the least bit surprised to see him pull out a shotgun and start shooting iguanas!

Had a similar experience: We were in the Bahamas on a 3 week trip, peacefully anchored when a fleet of brand new boats showed up, including a small helicopter doing low level and sideways flying for what seemed like hours to film each boat doing high and low speed maneuvers.
Turned out to be Formula Boats filming commercials for their new lineup.
Lots of factory employees on the boats partying it up and having a grand time.

Then they pulled out tenders and jet-skies doing donuts and high speed passes in the anchorage.
Had enough of it so I jumped in my 9’ dink, when over to the biggest boat and asked to see the manager or supervisor.
    (I was also lubed up)
Told him to take the F... jet-skies away from the anchorage and into the ocean if they want to go fast and make noise and wake. Also told ‘em I sailed to remote Bahamas to get away from idiots and arseholes, but instead I was surrounded.
Not sure I made any friends that afternoon, but they did cease the high speed activities, thank Odin.

Sure you did! They loved you!. :D On a serious note.... finding gunk holes with me being the only one there is a personal hobby. Getting harder, but I can still do it, single digit miles from one of the largest population centers in our country. (That's as much info as you're gonna get about my secret spots.....)
