Jet Tern Marine, manufacturer of the popular Selene line of trawlers, announced January 7, that they have developed a new model, the Selene 86 Ocean Explorer. This new design has been the work of not only Jet Tern’s Howard Chen, but an international group of designers and N.A.s including Dutch navel architect Guido deGroot. While sharing features of the current line such as a raised pilothouse, Portuguese bridge, and bulbous bow, the styling cues are more contemporary and will include large side windows in the hull and stainless steel anchor pockets. The 86 will feature four guest cabins all en suite and dedicated crew quarters. The yacht is expected to have a high level of luxury and superyacht styling. Construction will be of GRP using the vacuum resin infusion process. The vessel will carry 4,000 U.S. gallons of diesel and cruise comfortably at 10 knots with a top speed of 13 knots. Power will be twin Cummins QSM11 610 hp engines. Standard will be a sophisticated fuel polishing and monitoring systems to help keep cruising trouble free. According to Jet Tern, mold construction is underway and they should be showing the first vessel at the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show. The company expects this design to appeal to the European market and the charter industry as well as to current Selene owners looking to upgrade in size and luxury. http://www.selenetrawlers.com/news-id.php?id=465 Preliminary Design Specs: LOA 86 ft. 11 in.
