  1. Heesen secures order for first 42-meter Fast Displacement yacht

May is turning out to be a good month for Dutch yacht manufacturer Heesen. The newly sold Project 'California', working on delivering the "Lady Petra" and now a new order for their first 42-meter Fast Displacement megayacht. What is of special interest about this new vessel is at the bow.

The new vessel will be the first to be fitted with what is known as a 'Hull VaneĀ®' that consists of a foil fitted below the hull to reduce water resistance by 18-percent at average speed and up to 24-percent at maximum speed. Other advantages of the foil include reduced motion in heavier seas. This new technology for yachts has been created by Van Oossanen Naval Architects.

The new Fast Displacement yacht will be built in steel and aluminum and to ABS class. The hull number is YN 17042 and has both exterior styling and design with interior all by Omega Architects. Twelve guests will be accommodated in six cabins featuring not one but two master staterooms and two doubles and twins on the lower deck. Speed will be provided via twin MTU engines expected to push her to 15.9-knots and an automomy of 12-knots for a 4,000 nautical mile range. Expect this new yacht to be delivered in 2014.
