A while ago, people were launching a small submarine from a yacht in the marina just in front of my office. Apparently it's a new design which makes the submarine accessible to many more yachts than up until now. They are lightweight (1000kg), battery-powered and have versions for 1 or 2 people. You can go upto 50 m below sealevel and endurance is 2.5 hours. The link: www.uboatworx.com From what I saw, I would feel much more safe and relaxed in a diving suit with a bottle on my back, but that may not apply to everyone. Anyway the water is so murky here that I wouldn't go diving either. I would post a picture, but their site is all flash, so I don't know how to copy them. Cheers, Bruno
Bruno,I think thats a great under water tool.Could be very handy to go down and see the conditions of those anodes ,props, shaft state and bow trusters without asking for a towel when you get out . What price tag do they go for? Very interesting.Thanks. Francois
On their pricelist it says 55.000 euro for the CQ1 (1 person), and 85.000 euro for the CQ2 (2 persons). That's excluding options and safety gear etc. The one they were launching was the CQ1 and yes - it was small indeed. Your head is supposed to fit in the glass dome. But... if I had the choice to put either a mini-sub or a jetski on my (hypothetical ) yacht, I'd sure choose the mini-sub. And for the expedition yachts now so much in vogue, it may become a must. Bruno
Thanks Bruno for the info .They obviously come at a price but then again its the technology that goes with it that counts. Francois
New Luxury Submarine In the vein of luxury yacht submarines, I came across this beauty but yet a beast. She is HUGE and yet also expensive as you would expect. You would not expect something this size, to fit aboard a yacht in the conventional spaces used for tenders. Anyways, here is what I saw: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2003783824_luxurysubs11.html
