Came across this old Bottle the other day.
Not that long ago the Government issued Rum to all Sailors as rations.

    Makes my mouth water.
I wonder the challenge of getting some / a bottle that has not been opened.

That bottle is well guarded at the Maritime Museum.
But the "tragic" day came on March 30, 1972...

It's a tradition almost as old as the navy itself. Every day for the last 300 years, sailors looked forward to hearing the call of the bosun's pipe to "up spirits," when they would receive their ration of rum.
But by 1972, there's no room for a drunken sailor in the modern Canadian navy.
The ancient rite is given a burial at sea.

    Tot Club

I am one of the earliest members of the Antigua & Barbuda Royal Navy Tot Club. We meet every evening to toast the Queen and all things naval.

We have around 500 members from all over the world, but we still follow the British daily toasts followed by a full tot of Pussers Rum. Check out the website.

Begs the question-- is a "tot" some Imperial measure, or somewhere between a thimbleful or tumblerful? Or a multiple of either?

It's just under two shots, about a shot and a jigger. (2.4-2.5 US fl oz.)
