I've just acquired Contract # 108 (named "Nadesah," "Sangamo," and/or "Friendship") built in 1919 for the Carstairs brothers. Yacht was their second Mathis Trumpy build. They also contracted # 30 in 1912 named "Ruffled Grouse." She #108, has been under water for 9 months in Darien, Ga. She is in rough shape but I couldn't see her gone forever. I would appreciate any photos for saving her original design. Her engines were submerged and I have removed them(671 detroits). She has been bastardized to no end but her mahogany wheel house and Saloon are still in tact. Thank you for any help! Jennifer Flournoy
She is under way... And she has been on the rail for 2 months. Shipwrights are working like beavers. She will be back in the water by 2018. She has a lot of rot and we have removed most of the fiberglass. We have replaces 50 ribs and removed 20,000 lbs.
This sounds like one heck of a restoration. Jen, could you please keep us updated with the odd photo to watch the transformation? Look forward to seeing how it all goes.
Hi Jennifer, I saw Sangamo on the West Coast of Florida in the late 70's, she was beautiful. I believe a bank had her and was looking to unload her quickly. Too young, foolish and broke. Still foolish and broke, but now work for someone with deep pockets, and am his captain running a rebuilt 74' 1937 Commuter, and his latest, a 1970 62' Trumpy houseboat. I was just looking over Mimosa this morning, afloat in West Palm. She is the same build year, now tired. Hard to say what is still original. Best of luck, thank you for saving another old lady. Cheers, Captain Kirk Reynolds
