Happy new year everybody. A couple a days ago, offcorse while docking at the port: both engines shutdown! The mains are brand new, both mains shutdown exactly at the same time. I am not sure what was the reason for the emergency shut down, I would be happy if you can help me out figuring the reason. Following are the alerts: STBD Main: 31/12 14:45- SE CAN Bus 3 error/bus 371 +A210-A210 01/01 14:56- SS Emergency stop 01/01 14:45- AL Emergency Disengage 01/01 14:56- SS Security Shutdown 01/01 14:56- RCS Combined Alarm 01/01 14:57- MG Eng. I assume your Blue Tec equipped? if so you have excellent trouble shooting in the B.T. menus that will explain the cause for your code outs. If not than it sounds like an excellent question for MTU electronics division and or your vessels Monitoring manufacturer. Controlled area network PLC problems or voltage dip? Certainly nothing that you want to repeat whether your coming to the dock or in heavy weather.
Trying to say this constructively but I don't understand why you're asking us? No documentation? Neither MTU or Westport was able to answer you?
I have tried to check at the documentation but I could not find this alert. The next step is going to be MTU and Westport. Thank you for your help Saar
That's a surprise, if you where passenger carrying as certified vessel, I doubt that shutdown would be allowed, potential loss of life.
It wasn't Capt J. It was an apparently unconcerned new engineer as he wasn't concerned enough to call MTU or WP, both of whom are available 24/7.
Hi Everyone, I know this link is old but does anyone know if this above issue was solved? I have the same issue on my yacht that I am working on. TIA
It looks like an error I once had. The CAN bus tripped out and brought down the engines and generators with it. CAN bus was wired to the fire system. CAN bus tripped, which made the fire system trip which then brought down everything. All engines, all electrics, all electronics. Lights, radios etc etc. It was on a Riviera. They fitted a fishing rod holder by just drilling a hole in the transom coating without any thought where the salt water would drip. In this case the salt water dipped onto the aft terminator block of the CAN bus network. The temporary fix was to pull a manual fuse link and override the shorted terminal block.
I am experiencing such right now in my ship. There was a fire outbreak at the aft engine and lots of sea water was used to quench the fire. The main mtu engine refused to start up after the incident and the LOP was giving ss emergency stop and other error codes, thus making the ECU not to have power. What can be done in this case.
