mtu 2000 fuel burn

    i am considering buying a 70 foot sportfish with MTU 2000 93's and hopefully someone will know the fuel burn at variouse speeds / settings. also any consistant problems with them. thank you, Kent

    16v2000's burn 150gph at 1950 rpms or close to 80% load. A friend of mine put a lot of hours on them, we had a coolant circulation pump go bad at less than 1,000 hours and a couple of injectors. Nothing major.....the first 150 sets of 16v2000's had major issues early on, but they were all solved within the first year.

    Get a reputable MTU mechanic to give an in depth engine survey. If any extended warranties are still available, buy into them and keep them as long as you can.

    thank you - we will be doing that. sure appreciate your comments. Many times the Captains out there know much more then the "experts" they are the ones to ensure there is enough fuel for a long delivery. kent
