Would anyone know reasons for why mercruse vortec 350 5.7 motor, model 1996, won't go higher then 2200 rev? Carborator and plugs are ok.

Check fuel pressure. I believe those motors have 2 fuel pumps. If one goes bad it will have enough fuel supply to run at slower speeds, but not enough to supply the higher demand.

If I remember correctly, each Hi-Pressure fuel pump for Vortecs are matched by engine serial number. It's not an off the shelf part, very specific to each motor.

Best to check with a good Merc shop.
