I was shocked to hear the news that offshore powerboat designer/builder of Outerlimits Powerboats, Michael Fiore, died of complications after surgery following a violent crash last weekend.

Mike went to support several boats out at the "Lake Of The Ozarks Shootout 2014" kilo runs last weekend. From what I understand, he was not there to run a boat but when a schedule conflict arose, he jumped in and throttled the 46' Outerlimits.

They were mid way through the kilo & reports say they were running between 160-180 when the big cat blew over, went over 50' in the air, landed upside down/backwards but mainly on the starboard side & flopped to an upright position when it finally ended.

Reports say Mike was in critical condition but was expected to improve until a day later when he passed as the result of a blood clot.

Mike built our F2-07 Outerlimits "Wild Child" which saved our butts on many occasions & earned us many checkered flags in local, national and world championship races. Our thoughts and prayers to his wife, kids, family and friends.

Several national news shows are showing the footage & there are several videos out on youtube already. Here is a couple of the three or four angles that are being shown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ubukX0ZgtI

A tragic loss, he took the offshore performance boat market to the highest level and left us way too early.

    God speed.........

I never met Mike Fiore, but have a great deal of respect for his father Paul Fiore. He truly is one of the original innovators in big, go-fast deep V's, i.e. the first to incorporate stepped bottom hulls (no matter what Reggie Fountain claims!).

I met Paul at a couple of boat shows and a few boat races over the years, way back when I was into boating with a helmet. I know this really hits home for you Dave. Deepest condolences to the Fiore family.

A great shame to lose such a fine gent. I used read about his exploits in Boating Magazine as a youngster.

We now rig Baby-Racer 115 EPA speedy boats that will never reach the growling power and spirit of the Outerlimits boats.

I doff my cap to Mike.

There's an old saying "If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space." He certainly lived on the edge...didn't know the man, but my thoughts and prayers are with his friends, and Family.
