Does anybody know of a yacht that sank in Biscayne Bay recently, apparently the delivery crew on route to the Keys, ran aground at high speed while delivering owners just purchased boat? It might have been a Viking SF.

I did not hear any thing about that story in Miami but some one was telling me about a 90 foot sail boat off the coast of New York just recently that had been hit and sunk by a ocean liner of some sort. I was told there were casualties involded as well. I wonder if any one has heard any thing about that to varify if true.

Long Island Sound, although a lovely place to cruise, has had its share of tragedies. Most notably was one I guess around 20+ years ago, where a cabin cruiser cut between a tug and barge and was sliced through the hull. Several people were killed, even some from the owner's family, but he survived. I've spent many days on the sound when I lived on L.I. and it is a very unique location, with LI and CT on the sides, slick calm waters one day, 4-6 foot close chop the next with a full easterly wind. The scenery is great, and many harbors to duck in and explore. The sailboat may have been on auto pilot, who knows. But commercial traffic is always running up an down the Sound, from freighters and tankers to tugs and barges, so you need to remain vigilant at all times.

The collision was about 30 miles from me. "Essence", the 92' sailboat was hit by the 49000 ton coal freighter MV Barkald.
The woman killed (Gina) had a very nice website about her/their travels

My original question was of a Sport Fish on a delivery to Key West a Viking I believe. Not that the sail boat tragedy was not worth mentioning as there have been several yachts run over in long Island sound in past years mainly by barges being towed

I am shocked to see that I spoke to her in Newport as they were fueling up right next to us!! My colleague and I were discussing the transom on S/V Essence and she showed us how it was a garage, and my colleague's wife noted how attractive all onboard were. The accident was apparently just days later. I live only 10 miles from the accident site. What a terrible shame.... My thoughts go out to the family.
