Looking on hard storage for the summer months Miami/Dade county, prices seem very high, was hoping for around 5.00 per ft.
Glades in Ft Myers is 4.50 and trying to save a trip up there until next Dec.

    Any help, appreciated.

Do you have a home in North Miami somewhere?

few yards, not a lot of space, high property taxes and the need to haul out boats when a hurricane comes this way... you may have more luck in Palm Beach or Broward.

I would try PlayBoy Marine up in Dania Beach, FL. You didn't say what type of yacht you have but if you have under 12ft clearance there is one in Dania way up the Dania cutoff that is cheap. I think the name is Thunderbolt Marina. I don't know of any in Miami that would be cheap.

Well, if you do start looking towards Ft. Myers, check out the marinas along the Okeechobee Waterway. My guess is they could be the cheapest you'll find and you will not have to travel as far as Ft. Myers.

    You could start here: http://www.indiantownmarina.com/

And try Glades Boat Yard in Labelle FL as I recall.

Bill has a point about storage on the OWW but keep in mind that they often close one or more locks for maintenance in the summer. Can't always count on the OWW to be open at that time of the year.

You also can't on always having the lake (okeechobie) deep enough to get your boat out of there, for a year or two sometimes also!

True. But you can almost always get down the river. You just may not be going in the direction you would have liked. :D

Is the cost in fuel and time to run the boat from Miami to Ft. Myers going to make up for the cheaper dockage?

Why do you need the vessel stored on the hard for 3 months anyways? Also, keep in mind that no rate given to you by a yard is non-negotiable.

Well, we want to be up in that area for this coming winter, will be on the hard from June 1 to Nov sometime and shrinkwrapped,, Indiantown has a 1500.00 membeship fee which makes their rates too high (trying to negotiate). So I figured cruise up there now and we are ready to go in the late fall/early winter, Also, we summer in Vancouver BC with our 70 ft Stephens so keeping the Hatt on the hard is easier on the nerves !!!

There is a yard on the west side of Lake Okeechobie that is cheap. It's fairly close to the Lake on the Caloosahatchie river and if I remember correctly, they have a big sign up that advertises something like $3.50ft per month. It's a big place with a lot of boats out of the water, half of them look like they went there to die and have been there for years. One thing about keeping it on the hard up there, is you don't have to worry about any salt air degrading things like your stainless.

Why on earth would Indiantown have a $1500 membership fee? Is that a lifetime membership, or just for a year?

Yeah, I know the one you are talking about. I thought it was called Glades Marina. But I'm not 100% sure on that.

    "Indiantown Marina Hurricane Club

Due to overwhelming demand for Hurricane Haul Out Indiantown Marina has created Indiantown Marina Hurricane Club. By joining the Club you will be entitled to a dry storage space on the “Hard” during Hurricane Season at Indiantown Marina. Indiantown Marina is located approximately 20 miles inland on the St. Lucie Canal/Okeechobee Waterway.

Club Membership is open to owners of vessels no larger than 55 feet long, 15’10”wide, and less than 51 tons. Club membership cost $1500.00 plus tax per Hurricane Season. Membership entitles members to one Haul Out, Block and Launch of their vessel. Standard Storage fees will start the day the vessel is hauled and cease when vessel is launched. If a vessel has to be hauled out more than once in a season each additional Haul, Block and launch will cost the member $200.00. Should a member not require a haul out during the hurricane season then the member will receive a $500.00 credit on account with our Yard Services Department which the member may use toward service and repairs to their vessel."

I guess with fewer and fewer marinas around they can charge what they like.

I received email from Indiantown, does not apply to summer storage reservations, just to permanant customers who want to have pre paid protection, very strange....Glades in La Belle is 4.50 ft. can store 350 boats.

My guess is the $1500 guarantees you a spot. All others would be on a first come, first served basis till the marina is full I would think.
