I have a 2006 225hp Mercury Verado and the supercharger is making noise, (dealer said it was the supercharger). Are they rebuildable, and if so does anyone know who rebuilds them in the U.S.? Preferable South Florida but anywhere would be fine.
If you have been running it since '06, can you hear the noise? or change of noise? I've been on some of those Merc boats and have to turn around and check for a fire truck trying to pass us. The whale from a siren (supper charger) or the howl from the air induction thrumming in between my ears, I keep expecting to duck at any moment when it blows up like a bomb. If you have one of those extended warranties packages, call that company and ask them where to take it. If it's out of pocket, run it till it's reef material. After 6 years, it's been a long life. Shop and trade now before it really becomes artificial material. ,rc
It's on a boat I manage, the noise started as I was pulling into the dealer for it's annual service (has low hours under 300). It's a noise similar to a lower unit not totally in gear, the dealer said it's the supercharger, it still functions, but after running at cruise and you slow down you hear the noise under 1000 rpms. The dealer said if it fails it won't shred pieces into the motor, but the motor will not run (shut off), the owner wants it fixed......It's $4k + for a new supercharger, just wondering if anyone rebuilds them.
Sorry 'bout my SA comments above. It's a cast Iron thing. I would like to know your outcome on this project. Money numbers don't have to be repeated but can you offer "compared to" comments. My first interest would be the labor just for the R&R of the blower. I think that could be up there. After the purchase of the blower, exchanged, rebuilt or new, how is it warrantied? Installed only by a merc monkey for warranty? Did you find a rebuilding shop or forced to stay with Merck? Is/Was the 6 year old + engine worth the repairs.? ,Ralph
http://www.pse.us/products.Orignal.Mazda.9702.htm I think IHI built the supercharger for Mercury. No personal experience but, it may be worth a call.
