Rumor has it that the old boat yard in Gallows Bay will be converted to a mega yacht facility....? (Or sold, torn down then a new marina built from scratch)

I am thinking aobut buying a condo up the hill from Gallows Bay and if the rumors are true, it would sure change the property prices in that particular area.

Right now St. Croix is a bit run down and boarded up: Kind of depressing as this is in the middle of the season and the island seem to be only a shadow of its past.

Sooo, any intel on a new marina in Gallows Bay?

Well I just checked the IGY website which is quite famous for redeveloping or building new marinas here in the Caribbean and of course worldwide. IGY does not have anything concerning St. Croix in its future projects. So is there a private company or something there in St. Croix that plans to do it?

Hmm, must be a local rumor then.
Heard it down there recently, but it could have been from the realtor looking to "pump and dump" some properties, including the one I am eye-balling.

That being said, the location is ok and considering the recent development in Chub Cay with big money and big boats going to the middle of nowhere except for clear waters and nice sun-sets, St. Croix may not be too far of the scale.

Spent a few days in St. Croix this last weekend and saw only one mega-yacht, a dark blue hulled 120' something with matching color dark blue hulled T-top 30 Contender and (yawn) matching color rubber dink, all 3 swinging at the hook in C-sted.

Not sure if the island has the infrastructure to attract mega yachts as far as repair/support facilities, restaurants, etc.

Airport is plenty big enough to fly in big wheels from anywhere and fuel is unlimited as St. Croix has one of the biggest refineries in the Western Hemisphere....Diving is also top-notch.

What is lacking is just a tiny bit of glitch and glamour like in Monaco, Monte Carlo or uh, Chub Cay:rolleyes:

things may have changed since i lived in the VIs but i dont' really see how St Croix would present any appeal for marina developpers. nice beaches indeed but a serious crime problem... and really not much else compared to STT STJ and the BVIs, all within a few miles of each other.
