Mckinna compared to tiara

    We own a tiara thinking about moving to a McKinna...how do they compare

    Not even close. Tiara is a quality boat for it's size. Mckinna is an average to decent quality boat. Hull and build is strong enough. Not an efficient use of interior space. Also it depends on which model of Mckinna as many of them in the lineup are an existing hull that's simply been stretched and well they handle like it. The 65' Mckinna I managed for several years, all of the fan coils (A/C), the access panels were too small to replace them. So all of them had to have the access panels made larger, a lot of things like that. Over-complicated fuel system, over-complicated electrical system, etc. etc.

    Thanks so much Capt J. The boat we are considering is a 481...we’re in So Cal and our 4300 Sovran is solid but just thinking fly bridge and casual fishing ability of 481 were attractive. Hard to find info on Mckinna but did find they were Taiwanese built hulls. We’ll pass, the quality of the Tiara has use spoiled HA!!!

    They're not bad boats by any means. They just have the Taiwan inconsistencies and lack of thought to maintenance issues.......Tiara made a 50' FB which was a good boat. Maritimo makes a nice casual fishing boat in that size.

    I've been aboard a couple McKinnas and I thought they offered a lot of amenities for the price. They have an express boat that I like a lot, but CaptJ pointed out some things that I never noticed... and he was right. That said, I think the current crop of Taiwanese built boats are setting the bar pretty high. I would no reservations about buying a McKinna, other than the name may not be as recognized in the market as others.

    Forgot this was a McKinna vs Tiara topic. One thing I'll never forget is the non-slip sole on Tiaras. If you do slip, prepare for road rash.

    The Taiwan built Johnson 70 (2003 vintage) had the worst stainless steel I ve ever seen... stanchions were dripping so much rust I had to stock up on rust remover before Every Bahamas trip
