I am looking at the possibility of purchasing an Ocean 55' 1983 Sunliner yacht.

The yacht is located in Tennesse close to Memphis.

    Looking for the following:

    1. Recommendations on an excellent and very detailed marine surveyor in that area.
    2. The engines are Detroit Diesels 8V92 and I am looking for an engine surveyor with experience or better yet dd certified.

Your feedback on the yacht itself if you have experience with this vessel or have heard things about it would be GREATLY appreciated!

I don't know any engine surveyors in that area. However, I don't think you can go wrong by having the Factory Detroit Diesel dealer for that area survey the engines.

Have you actually seen this boat?

From the pictures online it looks like it may have sat for a while without being cared for. Look at the mold on the helm seat, that doesn't show up over night.

The boat looks like its in dire need of paint at least on the topsides.

Have you checked into insurance for this boat yet? I know quite a few insurance companies around here weren't writing policies for early 80's Oceans because they had some significant hull flexing problems. It may not apply to that model but they were dubbed "Flexible Flyers" in their day.

Be sure that any marina that hauls the boat knows EXACTLY how to block the boat and haul it correctly.

They are great looking older boat but do your homework and if it surveys well looks like a great price. I would also look at the older Viking Motoryachts 44/48/55

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Is there any place on the web you know that I could look into this flexible flyer issue? I definitely do not want to buy a boat with issues. it indeed has sat around for a while and it will need some maintenance.

I figured if it surveys well, it may be a bargain. anyone disagree? Feedback welcome.

By the way, anyone know a good engine surveyor in that area?

Recommend: Marine and Gas Engine Surveyor near Jupiter, FL

The deal in Tennesse has fizzled so I have another one in Florida in the works.

Looking for recommendations from people who have used or know someone who has used an excellent marine surveyor. This will be for a Silverton boat.

Also looking for an engine surveyor. Mercruiser gas engines. Need to do this this week or early next week so your help would be greatly appreciated.
