We have a 38' Chris Craft Corinthian with twin 454 crusaders. The engines have required some work and one needed a new Carb. The original quadrajet was replace with a Holly 4 barrel. I don't believe this is a marine Carb. Is there a difference and are there any safety issues?
the main difference in a marine carb is the use of J tubes for the bowl vents instead of strait tubes. the J tubes force fuel that overflows the fuel bowl into the throat of the carb to stall the engine rather than let it leak onto the engine through the flame arrestor. a stuck float can be deadly without J tubes.
yes you can if you can find some J tubes they just press in place. not sure if this will protect you from insurance companies or the coast guard though.
Who did the work for you? Did a licensed or marine mechanic do the carb replacement for you? If so, I would take it up with him. If you or a buddy did the work, then pay the bucks and get a marine carb to prevent a potential tragedy later. A little dirt can sticjk a float and make the bowl overflow. Seen it happen on cars and it can happen. Good luck.
