Smoke Visible For Miles After Boat Catches Fire Crews rush to scene in Weehawken

    By JOHN P. WISE

Updated 9:40 AM EST, Tue, Dec 9, 2008

Large, orange flames sent thick plumes of black smoke shooting into the air near the Lincoln Tunnel during the Tuesday morning commute.

Pictures from Chopper4 showed two boats fully ablaze at the Lincoln Harbor Marina after 7 a.m., and North Regional fire officials added that several others nearby also suffered fire damage.

It's not clear what started the blaze.

At about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Weehawken deputy police chief corrected an earlier report of a fatality by the Coast Guard. The Weehawken official confirmed that there is no death in connection to this morning's fire.

Someone on another forum, who lives aboard at Lincoln Harbor said the first boat was a 63' Viking MY. In the early photos, thats what she looked like to me. The other boat was pretty well masked by smoke and flames and tough to ID.

The other vessel is a 41 or 46 Silverton Motoryacht.
