I am looking for a new or used Yacht travel lift 100-120 ton capacity. Since this is my first time in this market, I am not sure if it would be better to buy new or used, buy or lease (is leasing possible?), and which manufacturers are best known. Also I am not aware of any resources online where I could research such as Yachtworld or ebay for example . The purpose is for a boat shipyard, fiberglass boats 50-120 Ft. approximately. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!
travel lift http://www.boats-and-harbors.com/classifieds/0680.cfm This publication comes out 2-3 times a month.
Boy do I feel dumb. I get this publication delivered and enjoy thumbing through it, but I never thought to check if they were on line. Thanks for the link.
Looks like I got a good deal on my 50 AMO when I bought it. To the original question one thing I learned after buying two and having them moved here to my yard is that the biggest issue is moving and re-assembly. Both times i have the person who took the travelift apart come with the lift to re-assemble it. Both times they were unable to complete the job and make the machine work. Both times we had to finish the job ourselves. If you are buying a travelift, make them guarantee it operational at your location. Hold back money until it is fully tested onsite, in front of you. Those machines do not like being moved and the hydraulics can get contaminated enroute. Every line should be capped off and the assembly crew need to know how to properly bleed the system when it goes back together. My lifts are 24 and 50 ton. In the 100 ton size you will probably get a better moving crew but still.... I don't care how well it worked when it left. It needs to all work after it arrives. Good luck with it!
Geriksen is right, it is essential to have the people who disassemble the unit reassemble the unit. I've had a BFM 70 and a smaller 35 that were both taken down and reassembled by the same guy. The crew that I use travel world wide and have provided flawless service for me, if you would like their contact info, send me a PM and I'll be happy to hook you up. Finding used machines over 100 tons is a bit tough, if they're in good shape they command near new prices because of their rarity. I just purchased a factory reconditioned 200T Ascom (which IMO is superior to a Marine Travelift) it only took me nearly 3 years to find the right machine though! Do you already have a haul out slip or are you starting from scratch?
