I have to say, this guy in this clip is indeed very lucky to be alive. I'm sure the last thing you want happen to you is to be mowed down my a helo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3idQKi5EqM&mode=related&search=
This pilot is EXTREMELY lucky to be alive. His deck crew too. When the tail rotor struck the deck, all yaw authority was lost, as tail rotor speed was reduced to zero. If it were not for the skids becoming tangled by the net, it most certainly would have spun out of control. The pilots instincts to immediately drop the collective probably saved his life... and craft. Good vid Ron. Thanks.
Thats a good clip to show prospective clients who insist on wanting a heli-pad on their yacht. These things should be fitted with floats, landed way off astern and the passengers bought aboard by tender. Keep those sharp spinny things away from the paintwork please.
Well, the idea is certainly not impractical but you have to remember the factors of efficiency and comfortability as well as convienience. People want to land on their yachts and get off where they can have access right away. I do not think they want to land on the water especially where it might be choppy then to take another tender to bring them to the yacht. That is inefficient as well as wasting resources. Why not just have a heli pad that meets all the standards of the MCA and relavant authorities and have a helo that matches the size and strength of the deck, simple. Convienience for everyone involved. We are not just looking at a paint job at stake, lol.
