I believe the last year they actually made a boat was 2006? I believe some the few 53's and 56's are of that vintage.
That hull was cast in 2006, I believe. The hull numbers and stated model year often can lag more than a year. Any rate, I think it was around that period the last hull was manufactured. Didn't realize that they had not filed a bankruptcy petition until 2011 - nothing filed earlier?
Post was tied in the courts with the gelcoat issue in 2006/2007 along with Viking. I guess during that time Post decided or could no longer afford to produce boats. Plus, they were repairing boats under warranty which cost them a ton on money.
I think that's what ultimately put them under - the warranty work. Though a production boat, Post did not build a lot of boats without a contract. So I'm guessing it wasn't inventory that did them in. I heard they went under with a debt to equity ratio of 5/3. But I don't know that for sure. Viking survived because it was a much bigger producer and could absorb the warranty debit better ? And lets not forget the crash of 2008
There are 2009 post out there were only four 42's built after 2006 most of the later models were 50's
I wouldn't be surprised if the 2009 was the re-fit year for a listing on Yachtworld and not the HID. My 42' was advertised as a "2003" but had a 2001 HID. The 2003 was from when the boat was finished. I thought that 2006 was the final year of construction.
I own a 42’ 2006 & in my search I found an 06, 07 and the 09 that sunk I did see another 09 that was advertised as a new boat zero hours w/warranties on the Cummings engines. I’ve been told by former employees of post that subsequent to 04 most of the focus was on bigger boat production 50-53’
I own hull #PMC50100K607. She’s a 50 Post, the 100th they built in their 50th year in business. I think she’s the last 50 they built. I bought her new in 2007.
All makes sense. Built 2006 and sold as 2007 model year. Friend had a 2005 53. Good boat. Fished it a bunch.
